Sometimes known as a nano facial, micro channeling, or nano infusion, nano needling is a needle-free alternative to micro-needling skin treatments.
This pain-free procedure can make a great anti-aging treatment to include in your normal skin care regimen. By stimulating collagen production, nano needling makes skin rejuvenation possible and improves the texture and elasticity of the skin.
It’s important to do your research before deciding which skincare treatment is right for you. Here, we’ve outlined some of the benefits of nano needling and compared it to other skincare treatment options.
How it works
Nano needling is a very safe and effective treatment. This treatment creates micro-channels in the skin without causing the inflammation, discomfort, or bleeding other treatments can cause.
Nano needling uses silicone tips to treat the skin using an oscillating motion. The silicon tips, which are almost invisible to the naked eye, separate the cells within the first layer of skin (epidermis). Separating the skin cells creates nanochannels that allow the skin to absorb active ingredients that stimulate collagen production.
The benefits of nano needling include:
- Rejuvenating and hydrating the skin
- Improving the skin’s texture and tone
Compared to other facial treatments, nano needling does not burn the skin like laser treatments, dissolve the skin like a chemical peel, or cause abrasions like dermabrasion.
What’s the Difference Between Nano Needling and Micro Needling?
Both procedures address many of the same types of skin issues. Both procedures use a needle pen but there are important differences between these two needling treatments. The main difference between the two procedures is the depth that the needles (micro needling) or silicone tips (nano needling) penetrate into the skin.
Nano needling penetrates only the epidermis. This means there typically will not be bleeding with this procedure as may be the case with micro needling.
Nano needling works well for all skin types and is a suitable treatment option for a whole range of skin conditions. It is a gentle procedure that allows you to resume your normal, daily life immediately after treatment. With no post-treatment “downtime”, nano needling is a great option if you live an active lifestyle.
With micro needling, there can be discomfort and pinpoint bleeding. This means that clients receiving micro-needling treatments may have to wait 12-72 hours before applying makeup, working out, or exposing treated areas of the skin to sunlight. Because micro needling penetrates deeper beyond the outer layer of the skin, some states classify micro needling as a medical procedure.
Nano needling works best for the reduction of:
- Fine lines around the eyes and lips
- Wrinkles
- Swelling
Micro needling is the better treatment option for:
- Hypo pigmentation
- Deeper acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Creating micro injuries for wound healing response
It’s recommended that you always speak with a licensed skin care professional before undergoing any skincare treatment. There may be instances where nano needling is not the right treatment for you. For example, if you suffer from severe rosacea, scleroderma, or have an active bacterial or fungal infection, nano needling may not be the treatment suitable for your needs.
